Setup theme from Scratch

Before start, please make sure that all required plugins are installed and activated.

Step 1. Create Basic Pages

You need to create basic pages like: Home, Portfolio, About, Blog, Contact. We will start with Homepage. Go to Pages > Add New, enter Home as a title. Repeat the process for each page that you need to create.

Step 2. Create Site Menu

Go to Appearance > Menus and give the name to your menu.

Select pages that you want to be in the menu from left sidebar and click on Add to Menu. You can reorder the menu links with simple drag and drop gesture. Then you need to select the location of this menu in Menu Settings, check Main menu checkbox. Finally you need to save all this changes.

If you use header layout with logo in the middle and links on the left and right, you will need to create two separate menus, one for the left side and another one for the right side. For the left side check Main menu, for the left side check Second menu.

For the footer menu use the same principle, if you need two columns create two separate menus, primary and secondary. Then select the location of the menus in Menu Settings section.

Step 3. Setup Homepage

Go to Settings > Reading select A static page, from drop down menu choose your Homepage and click on Save Changes button.
